Bregenz Forest, one of the most beautiful regions of Austria, is a favorite vacation spot for the people from Switzerland. You wonder shy? Well, is equally beautiful, spotless, optimized for the best activities in the middle of the nature for families and people of all ages. And did I mentioned that is less pricey? And yet there are so many other unique things to do and here are a few favorites:
5 Things To Do While Visiting Bregenz Forest Vorarlberg Austria
1. Hiking, Trekking, Mountain bike
Vorarlberg in the summer is all about nature. The land is amazingly beautiful and there are so many trails! Even if you are not so much into hiking, will definitely enjoy doing it here.
In Bregenzerwald you will find many easy trails and also very challenging ones. There are many cable cars to go on the picks and start there! Take a look at the many options available for the summer season in Bregenz Forest!
We hiked here two times:
Easy Panorama Trail from Baumgarten
This is an activity you can do even if you do not exercise at all. Is so easy! Even if I was not equipped as one should for hiking, it was more than ok! The views were amazing, the weather incredible! Doing this trail, you have the opportunity to see a beautiful view of lake Constance and the three states (Switzerland, Germany, Liechtenstein). And admire the paragliders!
Then, there are two restaurants in the area, with great views, very good traditional food and cold beer!
Hiking from Schetteregg to Schönenbach village
This is a easy hike but as the views were so amazing, instead of three hours, me and another friend made more than five! The trail is easy, yet you get to see waterfalls, to pass beautiful little settlements and forests!
In Schönbach village is the best Kässpätzle in Vorarlberg, at the only Inn/Restaurant of the village. You can arrive here also by car and start here to hike, there are so many options available, everywhere you look there is one!
And if you need guidance and ideas, download for free the Vorarlberg App, you will see the trails, weather, all you need to plan your trip.
2. Spend a night at Jagdgasthaus Egender Inn in Schönenbach
Jagdgasthaus Egender Inn is the inn with the best Kässpätzle. It is the place to be if you are in search of a digital detox, great views, fresh air and amazing food! Schönenbach village is the perfect Alpine village and for sure to stay overnight here an experience to remember.
3. Visit the first walk in farm in Vorarlberg
Ingo Metzler ist name of the company that produces lots of diary mainly made with goat milk. And then, the whey that remains is used to make natural cosmetics. They offer torus to visit the farm, the factories, warehouses and also you have a cheeses, cold cuts and drink tasting at the end. The factory is close to Schetteregg, the place we started the hiking to Schönenbach village.
You can also visit Susanne Kauffmann’s showroom
If you like organic high quality cosmetics, made from plants, you can visit Susanne Kauffmann showroom in Bezau. The products are well knows worldwide for their quality and here you can see the whole range.
4. Check Schwarzenberg village
Schwarzenberg is a place where you can admire the traditional architecture from Bregenz Forest. And also attend Schubertiade – the biggest Shubert Muzic festival in the world!
5. Lunch at Werkraumhaus Andelsbuch – Bregenzerwald Craftsmens House
Werkraumhaus Andelsbuch is the showroom/house/restaurant of the Werkraumhaus Bregenzerwald Association. Is the place where crafts mens from all over the region come to share ideas, or to attend some events and exhibitions and also to chat! It is a huge project, made to encourage young people to stay in the are and also to choose a craft.
When we visited the Association, it was an exhibition with different projects made by kids, as they are encouraged also to choose a craft. But there are opportunities for architects around the world: once in three years there is a competition with a 20 years tradition.
The food is traditional, very tasty and the restaurant is open for breakfast, brunch and lunch! We had lunch and as we arrived the venue ws rather empty. In about 15 minutes it was full and we enjoyed rubbing shoulders with local craftsmen that were in the lunch break. People are curious and so positive, it is a great place to be if you want to learn about the area and crafts!
