Don’t miss it if you like Authentic Greece: The Greek Home Food In Limenaria Thassos Sotiros Koukoutsis Taverna! While in Thassos island, I discovered an amazing traditional taverna. Simple and charming, this not posh at all restaurant became my favourite place on the island. It felt like home!
What to expect at Sotiros Koukoutsis Taverna in Limenaria, Thassos
The host, Sotiros, remembers everybody and make all guests feel great. And understand the Greek minute, I explained below.
All the dishes are very tasty! And fresh. Even if there are menus, you won’t find every day the whole things in there. But you may find others. Everything is fresh the fish, the meat, everything. And cooked that day!
If you need to decide and voice this, Sotiros will take you inside the kitchen to show you the options. Anyway, all the dishes are delicious. Simple Greek home made dishes, fresh and yummy.
My favourites are the calamari, the green salad and cheese or garlic salad. And the fish of course. And the home made beef on the pot. And the shrimps of course.
The prices are really low and there are special offers for sailors. Or for groups if you want to order for all and share. You get an insane amount of food, done this with some friends that were sailing around the island.
Strangers from different countries bond, sometimes share food and so on. I saw and lived this every time. You really feel cozy and chill! And enjoy the moment, no rush.
The Greek minute
Is possible to wait for your order, but don’t worry, you will have a drink! Or more. And then more as you dine. And for sure you will enjoy every minute of it.
You will learn about the Greek minute, that can last 1 minute, 5, 15 minutes or 30! Depend of how long you will wait for the bill: for a liqueur, a coffee, a liqueur and a ouzo? It is from the house!
You will get a lot of complimentary treats: ouzo, or wine, or dessert, or bread, or any combination of the above. Or others, I told you, each guest receive a special treatment! As I always refused sweets (I don’t eat dessert right after a big meal) I always received alcohol. And coffee and even fruits and ouzo and coffee and beers or whatever.
This is Greece: when you are a loyal customer you are really spoiled. Applies for markets, any kind of stores, restaurants and so on. The ones that are family businesses of course. And of course you love the place and keep bring more customers that will also love the place. And so on.
To literally dine on the street. Yes, there are some tables inside: 8. But the interior is only open in the cold months. For the summer, the tables are lined both sides on a pretty isolated street.
The taverna is only open for the dinner. So around 19:00, or 10 minutes earlier, you can show up, especially if you didn’t booked a table. Or make a reservation. The place gets very crowded in less than an hour, sometimes in just 20 minutes.
No free table at and after 20:00 in high season. Late September, or May maybe. Yet, you can be lucky and find a place later, if some people left early. It happens. As the tavern is pretty close to the city centre you can check it of course to see if you’re lucky.
