There are a lot of things you can do in one airport! And of all the crazy stuffs all there, the most incredible experience I ever had was to swim alone and relax in the Hamad International Airport pool! Overlooking the people rushing in the airport, while no one was able to see me, it is quite an experience and I still have to pinch myself to realize it was real.
Returning from Krabi, Thailand, I had an 16 hours layover in Hamad Intenational Airport. It was possible to stay less, of course, but my trip in Krabi Thailand was an invitation from Qatar Airways and the Tourism Authority of Thailand, so a part of the experience was to spend the night in the Airport Hotel.
How I Had The Pool All For Myself In Hamad International Airport Doha
We were a group of five bloggers and two representatives, one from Qatar Airways and one from TAT: in total six girls and a man. We each had its own room, I wrote about the Hamad International Airport Hotel here.
And we also had free access to the wellness area, that includes a fitness gym, a squash court and … a pool! What I did was to check the area when we arrived, go in jacuzzi and then to wake up very early in the morning. After making a coffee and eat some fruits I had prepared went straight to the pool!
The beauty of being early was the I was alone for about one hour! The Wellness area is open around the clock of course so you can go there at night also yet I so much love the natural light! I swim, made some videos, swim again, jumped up and down in the whole area. After an hour or more, I had to go as we had an Airport Tour and also other people were coming in the pool. So, it was impossible to still pretend it was my own (in my mind, of course).
What if you don’t check in the Airport Hotel?
If you have a shorter stay in the airport or if you don’t want to check in as most of the time the Hotel is fully booked, you can just go to the Vitality Wellbeing & Fitness Centre Reception and pay the entrance fee. You have wardrobe with lockers and so much more:
The access to the Hamad International Airport Pool and SPA cost 41 euro and includes:
- The 25 meters temperature controlled pool (my favorite).
- Jacuzzy, shower room, gym, towels, slippers and toiletries.
For me was great this break in between flights as I went straight to Berlin for ITB Berlin fair and had some incredible busy days in there. The area is huge and I cannot believe that in three months I will be there again. Times pass so fast!
I have spent so much time in Airports around the world and so far spending 23 hours in Sheremetyevo International Airport Moscow was my strongest memory. Now, having the Hamad International Airport Doha pool all for myself is not only the strongest when I think about airports, but also the most beautiful one!
Which is your most memorable airport experience?
